Elves in Kiera

Do you remember how life was before The Fall? We do. - Tylindril One-Eye, Councillor of Aradir Ealranil
Despite sharing the name Elf with their former masters, the Elves of Kiera are quick to point out that they were present before the Star Elves appeared and were similarly enslaved by them. This only sometimes works to quiet grumbling voices. Like the Humans, their enslavement had a lasting effect on the Elves. Where Humans became more individualistic, Elves banded together. While Humans sought comfort in other races, Elves became more insular. Even now, when Elves are present in nearly every settlement on Kiera, they often stay in the same area as other Elves. Several cities also exist, hidden from non-Elven outsiders, where Elves can live free of the prejudices that those who live among the other races do.

Society

Government

Elves are hesitant to place too much power in any one person. For this reason, Elven cities are led primarily by councils. They are made up of people elected by the citizens of that city, and serve 50-year terms. Elven settlements take great pains to hide themselves from the outside world, and are known only to other Elven settlements, some Elves living in the outside world, and those who have been deemed Elf-Friend.

Religion

Due to the relatively fractured nature of the Elves, they do not follow any one Dragon God above any other. Instead, most Elves adopt the views of those that surround them. Perhaps in an attempt to fit in with the other races more. The one exception is the Elves that have secluded themselves from the outside world. In their forest cities, Zintrak is revered most. His followers use the power gained from The Forestwatcher to divert inquisitive beings away from their cities, and fend off those who might have darker purposes in their forests. The most famous of these examples might be The Slumbering Forest, where an enchantment so powerful has taken root that any non-Elf who enters the forest quickly begins to feel drowsy. That is the first, and final, warning to leave the forest. Those who choose to continue forward fall into a deep and unending sleep, requiring powerful magic to awaken from.

Physical Description

Elves share a majority of physical characteristics with Humans. They are, on average, taller than Humans and have long pointed ears. Their hands tend to be thin and slightly longer than a Human's. Depending on their Heritage however, some of the characteristics can shift. For example, the Elves within forests have developed mottled skin, with dull brown and green patches on their skin. They can use this to help camouflage them among the trees of their home.

Naming Conventions

Elves tend to go for lyrical sounding names, though some Elves have also adopted the conventions of those around them. So, while uncommon, it is possible to find Elves with Dwarven or Human names and in even rarer occasions the names of other races.

Adventurers

Elven adventurers tend to be some of the youngest ones. If they are in an Elven settlement, they might feel cooped up and wish to know the wider world. Elves from a city might seek to escape the prejudice of their non-Elf neighbors, or to uplift their brethren by finding treasure out in the wilderness. Due to the general prejudice they've dealt with for most of their lives, Elves are slow to trust non-Elven or Half-Elven members of their party.
