Packet Ship

The Monterreil familiy is an AGP family that goes back to the original founders. One of their ancestors was the founder of the Chaude Freight Company. The family's first venture was the investment of most their fortune in building ships for fisherman off of the coast of Cathay. They were able to make a reasonably good living from that trade.   When the Vieta settlement was established, they built a large packet ship and began transporting goods from Cathay to the docks of Vieta. After the settlement became profitable, the packet service became a major source of income for the family. They built on the success of the first packet ship and soon had 3 ships that made weekly trips from Cathay to Vieta.   They took advantage of the Hub's historical and technical resources, as well as the 3D building capacity of the Mothership, to build the ship's parts and then reassembled them on Kiannon. The packet ships are large enough to carry passengers as well as cargo.   As Vieta grew, colonists began traveling to Vieta on the ships, bringing another source of income to the Monterreils.   The packet ships were built based on ancient earth technology that made use of the winds around Chaude Cape.  The ships looked much like the first packet ships on old Earth, but they have a few minor techological improvements to make them less likely to sink and more efficient in the use of energy.  The Founders Sect would not allow the use of engines unless they were run off of electric generated from the sun.  Chaude Freight eventually re-engineered the ships to run on solar powered engines, but they never forgot the Founders Sect's interference in business.   When they began to build airships, they built them keeping the Founders Sects interference in mind. They now have a monopoly on running airship and packet transport and travel services on Kiannon. The Founders Sect is trying to support the creation of another competitor.
