Kiannon II Mothership

The most important resource of the Kiannon II colony is the Mothership.  Control of the Mothership may ultimately push the AGP (Ascendant Group Party) and the Founders Sect into war.  The Mothership orbits above the surface of the planet.  It was the sleeper/ colony support ship that brought them from Earth.  The Mothership is a powerful symbol of the 'official government' that was established before they left Earth.    The Mothership is also the source of knowledge (history and education). From terminals or Libraries from the three settlements on Kiannon II, colonists can connect to the Mothership that will then allow them access to the Hub, a Interstellar Library of sorts that has the collected history, videos, records from old Earth.   When they first landed on Kiannon II, the Colonists were dependent on the Mothership.  Over the past 100 years, they have become less dependent on it for resources and and technology, but it is still needed for Medical, Scientific resources.  It also assists with some large-scale building projects like the Vieta AirShip terminal.  The Captain of the Mothership is the Council Lead, but she does not direct the Council's decisions. The Council is a democratically elected board that was established to work for the good of all Kiannon colonists. The Captaincy is determined by the Military.    Council members are essentially, the government of the colony of Kiannon, have access to the ship and meet onboard on a monthly basis to address concerns, requests from all members of the colony - both inside and outside Cathay.  In reality, the Council is still strongly influenced by the Founders Sect as the Founders Prophet has a permanent seat on the Council.  Due to the growing power of the AGP, they have lately begun to grant decisions that are favorably to the AGP.     During the war, the Council did not participate in the conflict that broke out between the colonists, but it prevented the AGP from assuming control of the Mothership.  They were able to do that because the members of the Council were either Founders Sect members or aligned with the original mission of the Mothership - which was to establish a peaceful colony on Kiannon II that would support the ongoing prosperity of all colonists on Kiannon.  The current members are concerned that the politics that broke out early in Kiannon's history may shift the focus of that mission.  So they passed a law stating that all council members must reside in Cathay.     The Mothership still assists with the colony's growth, providing technology, science and emergency or extreme medical support for all colonists.  It is a resource that is a problem for the AGP, as they don't have much sway in the direction or the decision making of the Council.  The Founders Sect is not pleased that the Council lead is independent, not a member of the Sect or a member of the AGP.  But they are pleased that the guidelines for the continued support of the Mothership align so well with their interests.
