Strategos Heirolykos is, by far, the oldest man to ever hold his position. The uninformed make assumptions about his mental acuity based on this information, while the informed are mostly those who have already been bitten when the man leaned into the assumption as cover for his still present cunning and strung them along into some blunder either for comedic effect if they were an ally, or sometimes into utter ruin if they were an enemy. This indirect conflict resolution is an extension of his career before he became one of the Strategoi, Heirolykos served his mandatory military service with the navy, but did not stay beyond his one term. Instead, he was a spy, and one of the best to ever serve the city. When he began to age out of field work, the director of Oros' clandestine services was young and so he opted for a different way to put his intelligence experience to work for the city and advance his career. Though it was extremely controversial at the time, it was an extremely successful move and has been permanently legitimized in law, with some proposals even going so far as to suggest a requirement that one of the Strategoi be pulled from the more shadowy branches of the city's agents. It has been quite a success for Heirolykos as well, if he hold his position for another sixteen months he will become the longest serving Strategos in the history of Oros, and it seems more likely every day that his term will be one of the most pivotal ever served as Hellenis careens ever closer to the largest war it has ever seen.
