Princess Melina of Oros is a fascinating and contradictory person by any measure, not the least of which is the measure of her name: Oros is a republic and has no royalty or nobility. Discussion with the locals sheds no light on the matter, as no two of them will agree on the details of who she is, where she came from, or when but every single inhabitant of the city believes that she is in fact their princess. What few facts are known about her certainly paint the picture of an influential person, she owns some of the largest businesses in Oros, commands a shipping empire, wields significant influence in the Council of Oros, and is not openly the head of the city's thieves' guild but the only known member of the elusive, international, and anonymous Council of Shadows. Apart from those contexts, any observer would be forgiven for taking her to be a princess like those in any kingdom. She attends public events and gives speeches, oversees festivals, holds feasts for visiting dignitaries, knights those deserving, and everything else one expects of their non-ruling royalty. The general assumption of those who are not busy espousing one of her many origins is that all of this is a fabrication, she is truly a member of the Council of Shadows, but all else is an incredibly elaborate persona hiding her true identity and reinforced with some sort of magic. The first verifiable reference to her existence is on the documents of one of her businesses dated three years ago, but of course the people of Oros have reasonable but contradictory explanations for that as well.
