Marcela de Valombre was born as a result of an unplanned encounter between the scion of the Ducal House de Valombre and the youngest daughter of Ducal House Weston which was initiated with less discretion than would ordinarily be expected for those in their station. This is a very polite way of saying that the two were seen by all and sundry fornicating in a public bath. Marcela's mother was not the legitimate daughter of the duke, and while she had been legitimized, this particular indiscretion was enough to see her cut off and sufficiently alienated to feel forced into accepting a position at the Pedigree Penchant. If her father were Albic, his house could be relied upon to take Marcela in, Orionism is very clear about the lack of inheritance regarding parental sins. The sensibilities in Sargosa are significantly less heavy on familial duty however, so little Marcela was born and grew up in that most prestigious of cathouses. She inherited her mother's looks and the former nobility that comprises the girls she grew up around saw her become a very interesting and intelligent young girl with an excellent eye for etiquette, both when to abide by it and when and how not to. For those reasons she managed to attract just enough of the interest and affection of her paternal grandfather and her eldest maternal uncle to avoid the need to join in her mother's profession when her time came. Her familial connections were quickly and skillfully added to from among the clientele and soon Marcela found herself so well connected and respected that her father's house belatedly legitimized her. To the world at large she appears to have wholeheartedly accepted the gesture, but for those few in the know, it's clear that she never forgot being abandoned by her father, and so took his name only out of respect for her then deceased paternal grandfather, and to cast a smoke screen over her true loyalties to her maternal house. When Duke Weston died, his son immediately re-legitimized his half sister, and took his niece surreptitiously into his service at the same time. Now all her connections are utilized in her new role as effectively the spymaster of House Weston, all while wearing the colors of House de Valombre. Her own establishment in the vein of the one she grew up in serves a clientele somewhat lower in traditional station, but her own connections serve for that crowd, and the new money of the city of Godseye are at least as important to keep an eye on for the city's duke.
