Personal history

It has been several thousand years since a Sun Elf ruled the city of Oros, but their legacy in the City of a Hundred Kings persists in more than just the architecture. The most concrete piece of that lost history is literally personified in Cheiron the Learned, last living descendent of the ancient Sun Elf lords. His appellation is quite a prestigious one today, and accurately describes both his prodigious arcane talent and years of experience. It began, however, as something of an inside joke and insult. Cheiron inherited enormous troves of knowledge from his ancestors, in a much more literal sense than most, who might imagine acquiring large libraries. While Cheiron did inherit more than one large library, he also received the accumulated magical knowledge of his ancestors and a sort of dry encyclopedic rendition of their lives and memories through a magical transfer of information upon the death of his predecessor. It was initially a commonly held view that he had not earned any of his expertise, and his title was a way to hide the thought that he was nothing more than a station he did not earn within complimentary language. In large part to prove these hidden barbs wrong, and perhaps to prove something to himself, Cheiron spent many years away from the city, going on various explorations, expeditions, and adventures across Khthon. He had an incredibly successful career and made quite a name for himself internationally, such that by the time he returned home he was welcomed as a hero and it has been a long time since any have used his title with anything but respect. Recently he was named the official Council Wizard, the highest honor his city can bestow on him without his standing in an election. There is some concern that seeking such a strong tie to the powerful wizard is a sign that the Council is not confident that the war can be avoided.
