It is an interesting and sometimes dangerous thing to refer to Captain Lycus of Crotera. He is the only member of the Captains' Council who does not appear to have an epithet based on some famous aspect of his career. This misunderstanding is safe to believe. The danger enters the picture once you understand the joke if you make the mistake of pointing it out. "Of Crotera" is an epithet, and is a hidden joke at the expense of the man's home city and its rulers: Captain Lycus is a lycanthrope. In fact, he has turned every member of the Howling Horde and at this point does not accept applicants who do not commit to the change. Lycus himself had to leave his home city because his blood runs much hotter than most and the culture of the area did not encourage or nearly allow him to take the precautions he needs to avoid causing harm when he changes among allies rather than enemies. He is extremely diligent in taking those measures both for himself and enforcing them among his company. His company is actually responsible for noticeably fewer incidents in Kasmenetros than average.
