Personal history

Admiral Myrsinus is the only high ranking member of the Orosian military to attend the Imperial University in Solaire rather than its local competitor the University of Oros. This cast a shadow over him that he spent most of his career fighting against, but eventually declared a final victory over when he was named rear admiral. Myrsinus' military career has been utterly spotless and characterized by prolonged periods of quiet competence with occasional flashes of inspirational performance. Some of his more impressive feats have led to his gaining the reputation as Oros' second most skilled sailor, an extremely enviable position in a city home to Glaukias the Traveler. During more peaceful times, the two men were known to hold friendly competitions to please the crowds and stir up support for the Orosian military and Glaukias' upcoming ventures. In what may still prove to be the inciting incident in the next Hellenistic War, Myrsinus found himself the only survivor of a horrific fire at the office of the admiralty, and the last admiral of the Orosian Navy. He has thrown himself headlong into attempting to manage the entirety of the navy while awaiting those vacancies being filled by the Council but separately has spent a considerable sum hiring investigators to look into the tragedy and potential sabotage that put him in this position. Though his own loyalty is held to be beyond question by most of the city, his status as the only survivor and beneficiary of control over the entire navy means that most of the government investigators are still quite focused on him. Before the fire, Myrsinus was being eyed closely for the soon-to-be-open slot among the Strategoi when one of them is named dictator. The current situation will almost certainly make a final determination on that question, though in which direction is not yet clear.
