Aakaipokaiksi Atotáán

Mythology & Lore

There is significant debate over whether Atotáán is a god or an extremely powerful spirit, though the debate is not held very loudly when his Children are within earshot. Regardless of his status, his nature as a supremely powerful being of fire is undisputed, and it is that power that attracts much of his flock. The teachings of the cult hold that as the embodiment of the volcanoes that are the source of their landmass he is a creator god, in fact the most zealous insist that he is *the* creator god, that all the world was forged in his fire. But in truth, most follow him out of fear of his strength or desire for greater strength themselves.

Divine Origins

Aakaipokaiksi Atotáán have been native to the Dust since the earliest records of the region. There is clearly a specific genetic stock that they come from, but they are an evangelical religion, and so now have members from most races and former creeds that have visited the area. Since they predate all visitors and have no writtten language of their own, much of their initial history is lost, apart from their oral traditions which are at least as much sermon as history lesson.

Cosmological Views

Though the most zealous proclaim their god as the world's creator, it is not a central tenant. It is however a central tenant that he will be the shepherd of the world's future. They believe that the new land he creates will eventually include an Eden for them to inhabit.

Tenets of Faith

  • Project strength
  • Respect strength
  • Convert
  • Kill
  • Worship

There are wildly varying religious practices honoring Atotáán, and most of them are opaque to outsiders. Unfortunately the clearest is a source of significant contention: non-believers are sacrificed to Atotáán by being thrown alive into a volcano.

    Granted Divine Powers

The overwhelming majority of Atotáán's children receive enhanced physical strength, it a far more ubiquitous gift than is offered by most deities, and a signifcant source of converts. The most favored also gain abilities to control and generate fire.
