ADVENTURE PATH 1 OF 3: GOTHIC SHADOW BLADES OF THE DEMON LORD D&D Homebrew   By John M. Bergstrom     With Inspiration from: o Gothic 1 (Video Game) o Shadow of the Demon Lord RPG o Destiny RPG o Blades in the Dark RPG o Iron Heroes (Alternative Players Handbook D&D 3rd ed.)   The Story The main plot tells the story of the [Nameless] Heroes in the penal colony, known as the Valley of Mines. It is situated on the isle of Khorinis, and is surrounded by a magical barrier that transmits everything from the outside world, but is a deadly obstacle for every living being trying to penetrate it from the inside. This magical barrier was created on the orders of King Rhobar II by powerful magicians to protect the extraction of magical ore from the mines. The king, Rhobar II, needed a great deal of it in order to produce weapons for his army, and the mine was supposed to provide it. During his long reign, king Rhobar II defeated the enemies to his kingdom; all but one -- the orcs. While they seldom used cunning or showed signs of high intelligence, they had a powerful advantage in the form of enormous strength and determination in the war against humankind. The story begins when the main characters go to the Valley of Mines as more, seemingly ordinary, convicts. Before they are cast behind the magical barrier, they receive a letter from the Sun Magister, with the task of delivering it to the High Magister of The Sun (addressed to Grand Master Xardas) within what has become the Old Camp, one of the three main factions. However, that is not their only goal. The [Nameless] Heroes will, most assuredly, also want to escape the Valley of Mines, anyway that they can.
