Grenk

The City of Trade builds the main connection of the Aquiline to the outside world. The gigantic harbor housing hundreds of merchant vessels each day as well as travel posibilities in and out of the region. It is a city of endless possibilities with an active day- and night life. Many visionaries set up their unique shops and establishments in the streets of Grenk as it is one of the cities with the highest population and tourism count on Keth'Rend. People from the Aquiline have to run their export outside of Eris through Grenk, people who want to Import or settle in the Aquiline have to pass through, too which means a steady tax income for the government.

Government

Taxes for living and shops etc. are relatively low while trafficking taxes for import and export are higher than average, since the city has a hard pull on the in and outs into a whole region.

Defences

The city is surrounded by guarded walls and towers equiped with ballistic machinery.

Districts

The is divided by the river that makes its way to the sea through Grenk, splitting it into a northern and southern deistrict.

The southern district builds the heart of the city. It holds the harbor and other establishments for trade and the day to day life of "common" people and tourists, like shops, places of leisure, temples, guild hubs, academies etc.

The northern district is a walled-off area in which only royalty and the rich reside in their own society. Most of them have built successsfull businesses in the southern districts but do not wish to actually live amongst the common folk. so they built their own society within city walls in which they can live and socialize amongst themselves.

Shops and establishments found here are luxorious and exclusive and only hold the fines wares that accomodate the standarts of the district's inhabitants.

Even the security and guards in the northern district are of higher quality than in the rest of the city, mostly because the nobles buy the best guards the city produces into serving the northern district, guarding the streets and the gates, leaving what is leaft for the protection of the southern district.

History

The city started off as an orcish settlement many centuries ago, defending the only easy access point to the continent vicously against strangers from the outside until some young visionary worked its way to the seat of warchief and turned the city around, reformed it into trade hub it is to this day. A few old sights and traditions can be fround in Grenk to this day which have their roots in the early days of the city (The Colosseum being one of them).

The title of Warchief, given to the leader of the city, reminds people of the city's heritage and can only be claimed by a pure blooded orc, challennig the current warchief to a duel. Of course theses days those duels, even though being a sacred tradition, are a little more staged and polititcally influenced than they used to. They are also not "till death" anymore, to the dismay of some elder orcish families.

Architecture

The Architecture of the city is as versatile as its inhabitants. in some blcoks one can see a dominant architecture as there are peopel of the same race living there but overall there is no set building style.

The fortress in which the warchief resides is made of black stone and bones of unknown bestial heritage which seem to offer a level of arcane protection.
