The Iron Isles can be found in The Sea of Swords and are seven large islands, named separately and inhabited mostly by Human's known as the Ironborn, or Iron Islanders.
As well as the seven islands there are over fifty smaller islands, ranging in size from a few meters in diameter to a few miles. Some of the larger islands have outposts, fishing villages, farmsteads, or mining settlements built upon them.
The islands were originally settled by seafarer/explorers from Amoria and were later named The Iron Isles for the amount of Iron Ore that was mined. Trade with Amoria for basic resources, such as food, livestock, and timber began with the exchange of iron ore, tin, minerals, fish, and other seafood, with the largest export being iron ore, followed by fish. Some mines are still active today but no iron ore leaves in trade, export now is mainly fish, other seafood, and ships.
