Background
The Kingdom of Nubira was formed at the end of a long period of violence and war between 6 smaller nations. In the year 10 BH a warlord from the kingdom of Nifflhas by the name of Nubir Alpenrose rallied his countrymen and formed an alliance with the king of Egron, Eroan Farel. Together, the two smaller countries were able to sweep across the region defeating and subjugating each of the other nations. By 1 BH, together they controlled nearly all of the land that compromises modern Nubira.
With their power consolidated, Nubir and Eroan sought to form a lasting peace. To achieve this, Nubir offered his daughter to Eroan's son as an arranged marriage. With these two families, elf and human, firmly linked they began the process of building a new nation. A trading hub city called Cirban was chosen to become the new capital and was renamed Nubis. Nubis sat in a central location, more or less in the center of Nubira. From this seat, the first king of Nubira reined. Though the previous leader of each of the other constituent nations swore fealty, Nubir did not trust them. He selected from among the nobility of each province a governor to act as his instrument. At this time, Nubir called for a new calendar to be started, and thus the year was 1 AH.
The grand experiment of Nubira seemed to be a success for many years, peace reined and the people prospered under the king. However, even kings do not live forever, and Nubir passed away at the age of 78 in the year 46 AH. The crown passed to his son Sigrun Alpenrose, then to his son Balmir Alpenrose in 97 AH, Balmir had no son when he passed in 144 AH and so for the first time the crown was held exclusively by a Queen for a time. Upon her death in 151 AH the Alpenrose patriarchal lineage had come to an end and so the crown passed to the eldest daughter of Balmir, Jonna Amberwell. Jonna's young son Volstad Amberwell took the crown in 175 AH upon her death. He was married to Matilda in 187.
In 183 the long quiet neighbor, the Falstromi Empire, suddenly and unexpectedly raised their army against Nubira. The war was not going well for Nubira, they lost territory along the Shield Mountains. The border of Egron was pushed to the edge of the forest and Ushay lost over 100 square miles of farmland along the south-east border. Ten years into the war, in 193, something wholly unexpected occurred: Volstad Amberwell and Tesheme Falstrom, the emperor of Falstrom, went missing. This led to widespread chaos in both nations, each blaming the other for the missing ruler. In 195, two years after the leaders went missing, Queen Matilda Amberwell and Empress Thempia Falstrom held a summit to discuss peace. During this summit, it is discovered that the reason Falstrom attacked was because of a group of lost adventurers inadvertently penetrated deep into Falstromi territory, which was taken as a sign of aggression and war. By the end of the summit, a peace treaty was signed allowing Falstrom to maintain control over land their troops had claimed, but this land would remain unoccupied as a buffer between the two nations.
After the summit, which the knowledge of the reason for the war, Queen Amberwell ordered the creation of a new institution: The Academy. This Academy would act as a place for learning and guidance for would-be adventurers, with the goal of preventing any future accidental incursions into Falstromi, or any other nation's lands.
Many were hesitant at first, unsure of what the Academy would mean for the nation, but the Queen assuaged their fears and pushed forward. By the end of 195, the Academy was opened and took in its first batch of students.
It is now the year 245. The Kingdom has been at peace for 50 years and many have prospered under Queen Matilda Amberwell. Though all is not perfect and not everyone is happy with the state of affairs.
