The Dominion

The Vylontrians showed great promise as an early empire, rising to power quickly. They knew that in order to expand their territories and sustain them, they would need a strong and stable government system. And that’s just what they developed.

Government

The Vylontrian Dominion, most commonly just called the Dominion, was the form of government that the Vylontrians created. They required all citizens to state their allegiance to the Dominion every year at a special ceremony that was named Rekindlement. If a citizen failed to attend this event or did not announce their allegiance, or refused to do so, they would be considered a fugitive and were subject to immediate execution. Rekindlement was not only a governmental practice, but a religious one as well. It was seen as a holy event, where an individual would prove their devotion to the Angel, by performing something called garmetas. If they did not perform garmetas, they would no longer hold the Angel’s Blessing and thus were eligible for execution. It was not a monarchy but doesn’t really fit into any specific classic government type. It had many levels of command, and although they did have a leader position comparable to that of a monarch, the levels below this monarch figure prohibited total control of the top positions. They had six main parties. They weren’t really political parties, but instead class-based segregations that divided commoners by main category of profession. The parties were: Militia, Religion, Science/Exploration, Trade, Medical and Agriculture. Vylontrians did what they could to ensure that relative population balance was kept within the parties, but there were occasionally some imbalances. All Vylontrians were given at least basic levels of battle training, and those in the Militia party would receive even further advanced training. Vylontrians were born into a party—if your parents were in the Agriculture party, you would grow up to be in the same party. However, you did have freedom of job selection. So, you may have had to be in Agriculture due to your heritage, but if both your parents were in the Primary Farming Division, you could choose to instead be in the Agricultural Expansion Division. All parties received the same median pay and were all entitled to equal benefits. Some Primary and Secondary Divisions provide altered benefit plans or compensation, but these amounts would never be below the median pay range. Some specific jobs offered more, but never less. That was a cornerstone of Vylontrian economy—you could grow to become richer, but never poorer. The two parties with the highest respect are that of Militia and Religion, and often provide the most status to said parties’ members. Each party had hundreds of representatives. In elections on certain matters, these representatives counted votes from the districts and regions they covered, and provided a vote based on the majority of the district. A council of government officials governed each parties’ representatives and citizens. Each party had their own council, which reported to a larger council, called the Collective of Dukes. In this Collective, one member of each party represented their party and presented ideas and formed legislature. Above this Collective was the “monarch,” referred to politically as the Potentate but religiously is called the Holandra Volendoro or simply the Holandra.
