In the extremely distant future, mankind has held on somehow and never completely died out. For a long while, we prided ourselves in our accomplishments to stand firm and strong for this long. We outlived war after war, we outlived famine, we outlived evil regimes, and we even outlived the death of so many planets and solar systems. We moved from start to star, and galaxy to galaxy, and our power wasn't just KNOWN throughout the universe, in some ways, it WAS the universe. At first, we were met with all the universe had to offer, and many times it threatened to overwhelm us; yet with each passing encounter, we still remained, and it is a cruel fate. Now we are once more all that remains, there is nothing left but mankind; and it is clear, God has abandoned us.   The exact year has been lost in our collective memories somewhere. We do not know how long we've been around and have had to create new ways of tracking time usually after a couple hundred millennium. To make matters worse, many of us have given up on trying to accomplish anything new, and these people have connected themselves into virtual rest pods to live out their eternities, detached from the growing cold. Now, our once vibrant humankind has been boiled down a small remaining band of people whom hold onto the hope that they can breach what we call "The Veil" before our last known star goes out and the universe is plunged into eternal darkness. Somehow, despite all our humanities many accomplishments and feats of scientific wonder, we have not ever known how to breach "The Veil" and slip out of this world into others more younger than our own. If we fail, then may our deaths be swift, and this miserable existence be ended, along with any point to all our former trials and suffering.
