Underlanders
Short, often hunched individuals with a wiry frame and unkempt hair. They often sport large front teeth and small, beady eyes. Nicknamed “Scurriers” by those living on the surface the self-proclaimed Underlanders scavenge much of their living by picking through the discarded refuse of the city.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Names are generally ascribed to individuals for performing particularly noteworth actions or displaying outstanding characteristics. For example an Underlander who runs quickly may earn the name "Swiftfoot" while an Underlander who frequently burps may gain the name "Belcher".
Culture
Birth & Baptismal Rites
Children are born in groups, often left in the care of the eldest female in the clan, while their parents will return to scavenging as soon as possible.
Common Myths and Legends
Sewer Stalkers
Large quadrupedal creatures which stalk the sewers and hunt down unsuspecting Underlanders. Creatures are in actuality members of the Portempest City Guard tasked with maintaining the sewers and removing troublesome Underlander groups.
