Rift Wardens
The world of Karvahal is lined with extra-dimensional rifts that dot its vast landscapes. In time the danger posed by the rifts drove home the need to do more than counter the rifts with strength of arms.
Mages and Scholars got to work analyzing the rifts as they were found. Over hundreds of years, the lore accumulated and grew. Until finally the Mage Ignacio Vellere noticed the rare properties of the Isoa crystal. That crystal allowed the tracking of Rift Locations. At this stage, more resources and time were added to confront the Rift problem.
Once again Vellere discovered the final answer. A dedicated being could enact a process (later defined as ritual) that could in tandem with Isoa crystal close a rift. After Vellere successfully closed several rifts, he was able to teach others both magically inclined and more mundane individuals how to close a rift. Slowly an Order was formed for such beings who would traverse the landscape and its hazards to close rifts. The Order came to be known as the Rift Wardens.
As the Rift Wardens grew in number their fame also rose. Many small villages far removed from armies used to be plagued by the rifts and its denizens. Now the Rift Wardens would patrol the countryside and close as many rifts as possible.
Rift Wardens dedicate their lives to closing rifts. Rift Wardens are taught how to identify stable and unstable or spontaneous rifts. They learn a variety of combat techniques first to defend themselves, and as their training progresses they are then taught the intricacies of finding and closing rifts using the Ritual of Closing.
Known Ritual A Rift Warden is taught the Ritual of Closing upon the completion of his training. Using the Isoa crystal a Rift Warden begins a ten-minute ritual which begins to contain and neutralize the universal energies of a spontaneous or unstable rift. While performing the ritual Rift Wardens are vulnerable to any creatures coming out of the Rifts. Over time the Rift Wardens were able to adapt the ritual. If the need is great enough, a Rift Warden can expedite the Ritual to one minute at personal cost to himself. Expediting the ritual will drain a Rift Warden of their essence. This drain can lead to death.
Key Sense A Rift Warden is taught to use his Isoa Crystal to detect the locations of Rifts. The crystal will be like a compass pointing to a Rift. The Crystal will point flawlessly to any Rift within two miles. Over that the crystal will point generally, oftentimes to the largest rift in the region. Typically stable rifts like the Great Rift at Stonebreaker Mountain will draw a crystal's long-range direction over minor rifts at a distance.
Lore: Rifts Proficient in the Lore skill Rifts. Always performed at player level + proficiency level.
