Savages

Despite much correction from the learned and adventurers the term "savages" is still the term used by most conventionally civilized humanoids to describe virtually all other humanoids that do not fall within their own category. Goblins, orcs, kobolds, gnolls, thri-kreen, and any other creature that is characterized by barbaric lifestyles or otherwise cultures that cannot coexist with those of humans and elves are all lumped into this category. Beastial monsters are not considered savages due to their lack of intelligence but the intelligent races that persist in cruelty and destruction despite their enlightenment are deemed "savages" since most people can think of few other reasons for their behavior than some kind of inherent flaw. This assumption is sometimes right and sometimes wrong however regardless of its accuracy (in fact despite its inaccuracy) anyone who has not studied monsters or has intimate experience with them will simply know them as "savages".
The word originates in the old world when it was simply a derogatory term for the enemy, hollered by the generals amidst a battle speech. However when settlers came to Yuruk-Tar they discovered many creatures that despite their apparent intelligence treated them worse than any of the "savages" in their homeland. Initially they were simply called savage. "savage greenskins", "savage gremlins", "savage bugmen", etc. However eventually farmers found it easier to simply refer to the whole lot as "savages" since there was scarcely a difference between any of them in their mind. All of them came, looted, stole, and killed. What did it matter if one proclaimed the name of their god in their war cries and the other didn't even make a sound as they sneaked amongst the grasses. And besides, giving the creatures the dignity of an identity seemed far more than they deserved. And so the term "savages" began to be used as a blanket term. To this day it is considered on of the single most offensive things to call anyone, the equivalent of calling someone not only less than human but unworthy of being recognized as different from the raping orcs and the man eating thri-kreen.
