DAVID

About Me

  • Greetings adventurers! I'm David, Head DM and storyteller for EBR.
  • I’ve been DM’ing for more than 3 decades, with roughly 20k hours on Roll20. I’ve been playing for slightly longer than DM’ing, and love all phases of the game, especially RP, combat, and puzzle solving.
  • I’m a published author as well, and I love me some serious storytelling. I like to find new ways to challenge players to think and RP- some of my puzzles have only been figured out by roleplaying through a given challenge.
  • My driving principle is to provide sessions that allow my players agency, opportunity, and a feeling of having accomplished something in the game world at their conclusion.

Campaign Setting

  • The Kopav Alliance blends 'Wild West' and gothic horror, featuring saloons, haunted railways, and a society shaped by philosophical alignment with the Lords of Law. It's a realm of legends, balancing mortal existence with the land and the divide between haves and have nots. In this land of gambling, whiskey, and railways, quick justice is enforced by Sheriffs and deputies forming posses within minutes. The essence of the Kopav Alliance resides in its saloons, perilous mines, vast landscapes, and chilling spirits, haunted by legends of great evils. Venture into this realm with caution, armed with a six-shooter, saddlebags, and a blessed artifact made from your great granny's heel-tendon, hanged for witchcraft during a train robbery. Governed like a successful corporation, the Alliance has a CEO elected by a board of directors, mirroring a presidential system. The COO acts as a vice president, and citizens elect the board, resembling a House of Representatives. Worship centers on the Law pantheon for protection, yet Chaos finds followers among drifters, gamblers, outlaws, and ne’er-do-wells.

Game Style

  • My game style involves telling complex stories in which players have choices to make that influence exactly how the story develops. Players need to solve problems through thought and roleplay more often than with a particular spell or skill roll.

Rule

  • As a seasoned Dungeon Master, I know the rules of Dungeons & Dragons well, but I sure as heck don’t know everything. When rules questions come up during a session, I will try to clear it with a minimum of delay; in situations without a clear rule, I expect that my players will accept a ruling to preserve immersion, and trust that I will be equitable in those situations.
  • My goals are to provide that game-immersive experience as much as possible, and will do my best as a fellow human being when those issues inevitably come up.

Communication

  • I am easy to speak to, and I listen well. I may not always be able to respond immediately, but I will ALWAYS respond- real life has its demands as well.
  • In terms of Discord roleplay, I ask for patience to allow me to respond even when it seems like time is of the essence, and I will do the same for my players. At the end of the day, I’m always hoping for new friends through this shared gaming experience, and I’m happy to chat as both player and DM, as friend and mentor.
