Gendrin

History

The game gendrin was originally known as "gendron in moroïs." It was brought to Ithilien by the same traveler who brought the philosophy that eventually developed into The Moroïs belief system/deities. The traveler intended the game to be used as a tool for teaching his philosophy of balance and equilibrium to the people of Ithilien. Over time and as the game spread among the people, its initial goal of enlightenment was lost, and the name was eventually shortened to gendrin.Today, it is a favored pastime and cultural staple for Ithiliens.

Execution

There are three different levels of complexity of the game, each involving more rules and pieces than the last, but the overarching objective is always the same: beginning with a random set of pieces, trade, sacrifice, earn, and steal pieces until a player has a complete (i.e. balanced) set.

Components and tools

Gendrin consists of a playmat and between 50 and 150 game pieces.

Participants

People of all ages and classes play gendrin. The game's lowest level is designed for children and it grows more complex for older or smarter players. It is played with three to four participants.
