Gendrin

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Gendrin consists of a playmat and between 50 and 150 pieces depending on the skill level a given copy of the game is designed for.

Manufacturing process

Mats are weaved or knitted from cloth made from wool or fur or silk. More expensive versions may be dyed before being woven, so as to create more a more clearly defined playing area or after for a more artistic appearance.   Game pieces start as small blocks of wood, stone, or metal. These are sculpted using the appropriate tools into figures representing different aspects of Ithilien culture, including suns, moons, animals, and various culturally significant shapes. Some choose to paint their pieces, but this is usually a personal choice. Pieces are rarely painted before sale.

Significance

Moderate cultural   The game is popular in Ithilien, but has lost much of its original significance. It is now treated only as a challenging game of strategy.
