Kaot

Kaot is a world of stories and history, discovery and lost secrets. Three of its denizen races--the reptilian Skeyll, the aquatic Merse, and the resilient Humans--must coexist as they spread across the globe and struggle to master the arcane energy they radiate known as aurum, which allows them to "cast," performing spectacular, nearly supernatural, feats.   Aurum comes with a vicious cost, however. Using it makes a caster ill and overuse will transform the caster into a horrific creature with a voracious appetite for the very energy that created it. Virtually immune to castings, these monsters, called Veyd, are able to transform others, as well, by feeding on their aurum.   Interestingly, the Veydrun--a race of enigmatic automatons--consume aurum in a similar, albeit more controlled, fashion as fuel. According to legend, they were found over a thousand years ago slumbering all across the lands of the ancient walled-off Francurian nation on the subcontinent of the same name after a terrible disaster resulted in the entire population being transformed into Veyd. Today, the Veyd have long since starved to death and the Francurian ruins have been reoccupied by Skeyll and Humans.   Meanwhile, the continent of Garadina at the planet's south pole is home to the Fledge, a mammalian race of tree-dwellers isolated to the continent by its unique environment. Plants capable of generating their own heat have resulted in a temperate forest dominating the inner-most portions of the continent, but leaving the coasts still frozen. The Fledge are unable to leave the forest because of the frigid temperatures beyond its border, but it is only a matter of time before the other races reach Garadina by the extensive island chain that stretches from just above the equator all the way down to the polar continent.   All these beings share the world of Kaot together, but they only create some of the stories that belong to it. How many of Kaot's secrets will its people find?
