Eclipses
Having two moons, eclipses on Kaot are fairly frequent and for the people of Ithilien, they are a holy time. Ithiliens believe an eclipse is the merging of Essir and Mitna, the two gods of The Moroïs. It is a time of balance, a sign that no matter what is going on in the world, eventually all things will find equilibrium. During an eclipse, all Ithiliens enjoy a day off to reflect or celebrate or mourn as they see fit.
The majority of Moroïsians attend a temple service during the eclipse itself where they give praise to whichever deity resides in that season. Before the service, they spend time with their family, praising Essir and performing rites and private ceremonies at home in honor of her and her domains. After, they return home to give respects to Mitna and her domains. The sect who believes the deities to be lovers takes a slightly different approach. For them, an eclipse is the gods coming together physically, and the people emulate their deities in ritual praise. Some couples in this sect intentionally try for children during eclipses, waiting until one of the holy days comes in hopes of taking advantage of the gods' powers of fertility.
