Ray-waves

Even back before the creation of the Allegran government humans were tapping into physical laws the same way they were learning to harness the other invisible forces of arcana and metaphysics! In the short years after aerial apartment living 'took off' (sorry not sorry) in among the social elite in Stretto an inventor named *nerdy heblin name* created a type of machine that could transmit and receive an inaudible frequency that, when used in certain situations, could tell someone how much distance the frequency traveled before being bounced back by another object. The discovery of radiowaves in this way actually later led to the combination of the research done by *another nerdy name* and their research work with electricity in the Dannamore workshops decades earlier.
These invisible radiowaves were discovered to move very quickly through the air and with enough concentrated power could be projected incredible distances. The applications of this new technology were infinite and soon *nerdy heblin name* was building machines that could transmit and receive these radiowaves in short bursts. Being naturally shady by nature, the Sewyn family immediately recognized the potential these inventions could have while trying to secretly disseminate information or quickly notify an individual of incoming danger.

Vocabulary

The primary use of ray-waves is to monitor the distance between the user and another distant mass. If the user wishes to make themselves easier to perceive by other using the same type of raydio machine they ofter transmit a coded message with their flight path so not only can others more easily avoid collision by predicting their trajectory.
When used for short-range communication there are now infinte numbers of unique ciphers used by anybody who knows how to use the machines. Like any kind of new technology the use of ray-waves as slowly disseminated itself into the daily lives of many folk, beginning with the wealthy of Stretto but now it's nearly as common as the Northern Kinkajou that live in the fruit trees so plentiful in Etude.
