Planar Consumption

Most humans have short memories and this is obvious to longer-lived species. Many humans don't even know their grandparents, so how could they know their distant heritage? Despite their average appearance, it's incredibly common for full-blooded humans to have traces of otherworldly bloodlines in their ancestry. These traces are normally harmless, dormant, and benign.

In rare situations, under unknown circumstances, humans with mixed bloodlines can develop a condition called Planar Consumption. This is thought to be brought on by an innate link to another Sphere, likely the Sphere of origin for their distant ancestor.

Symptoms

Depending on their heritage, many individuals who manifest Planar Consumption believe they've been somehow blessed. Small magical effects seem to follow them around, subtly manipulating the world around them like some kind of guardian angel. These benefits are often linked to their planar heritage; bloodlines from the Elemental plane of Air find that if they drop something, it fails to hit the ground - held aloft by a supernatural air current, for example. Similarly, individuals with heritage associated with the Fae realm find their relationships with nature and animals grows steadily stronger.

Transmission

Rare as it is, those working in medical or arcane research have deduced that it is almost certainly passed from parent to child. Those with the disease are very likely to pass it to their children.

Genetic
