Nalfien

Nearly all Nalfien share a common skin tone of near-black, however the variety of tone and shade vary greatly. Many Nalfien have a vibrant 'undertone' to their skin that is only visible in dim light that grants a slight 'sheen' most non-Nalfien rarely see. Indeed it's quite a shock to most who see a Nalfien shortly after sunset - their exposed skin shines or glitters in the dim light.
Nalfien tend to be somewhat taller than the average human, but keep the slim build of their elven heritage.

Nalfien Names

Being a singularly matriarchal society means that all children take the familial name of their mother, whether biological or adoptive. Names have great social importance and when an individual or family is expelled from their government their names are recorded and those names are forbidden to all new families.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The insular society of nalfien speak an ancient dialect of Elven that has much more in common with the archaic origins of the racial language. Although elves can often understand specific words from their language, the heavy emphasis on gender and small changes in word order make the sentence structure difficult to decipher.
