Elemental Migratory Iridescence

Seasonal Optical Phenomena

Unbeknownst to everybody, including their own incomprehensible minds, Elementals are incredibly complex machine-like creatures that behave more on a pre-established set of strictures than with any self-directed motivations. The study of actual Elementals is still nearly beyond contemplation for the most advanced scientists living in Allegri since the creatures are so scarce and even moreso dangerous. At specific astrological alignments a type of clarion call goes out to various kinds of Elemental and they are compelled to move, a silent summons by an irresistable force. Some of these migrations are predictable and have become part of Allegran cultures and calenders.

Manifestation

There are several different types of documented Elemental migration which all have similar but unique effects based a several variables which include; Elemental type (air, earth, fire), seasonal weather conditions, and regional topography all contribute to what happens. Especially towards the end of their long journey, the immense numbers of airborn Elementals of the same type when hit by the light of the setting sun, potentially also reflected, refracted, or filtered through the atmospheres of Dark-Heart and Bright-Soul create all kinds of bizarre effects both appearing in the sky or projecting them onto terrain below.

The most widely observed phenomena of this kind happens consistently twice a year. Only visible from a specific region of Etude, a massive Air Elemental flies high above the Allegran capital Etude once every six months, casting a dazzling prismatic shadow that essentially brings four city blocks to a standstill for three minutes as the strange lights cascade hypnotically from above. The Elemental is almost always soaring above any potential cloud cover so the effects are usually impaired but if the migration falls on an exceptionally clear day the entire *something district in Etude* is closed down by city officials for public safety. Even though there's never been anything outright violent during the phenomena, the erratic nature of it's effects and potency are worth watching closely since it could cause unpredictable responses in anyone present for the effect.
