Calzma Fortress Settlement in Kaos Rhythm | World Anvil

Calzma Fortress

Nobody seems to know where the fortress-city of Calzma came from or which people made it, how long ago, or why. Even the simple knowledge of its existence is rare among human scholars. Rumours and speculation have been circulating about this mysterious location for centuries although no brave soul has ever returned with anything but more questions.

Centuries ago, before humans populated the surface of Kaos the Primis slumbered in massive obelisks steeped in metaphysical power. One such plinith is the mountain-fortress Calzma, which once contained the dormant forms of Tuara and Landr before history began. From a distance the fortress looks like any other abandoned city you'd find across the face of Allegri - save for the fact that it's older than humankind, possibly older than even the fey.

Serving now as home to every kind of outcast, the city that surrounds the fortress is thinly populated with anyone ranging from bandit to refugee. With no government, leadership, or infrastructure, those who remain here do so at great peril and many only survive by hiding.

Within the citidel itself, heavy walled and completely sealed off from the city around it, the Primis Tuara keeps her private gardens. Her personal domain where she has converted portions of the ancient structure beneath into her personal playspace. Tuara uses the vast subterranean structure as '[dot dot dot]'

Demographics

As a well preserved abandoned city with no leadership or government whatsoever, Calzma inherently drew together a very diverse collection of folk; young and old, human, elf, fey, kakornio, and the single largest population of people from mixed heritages.

Districts

There are two roughly definted districts within the city walls. The northern district is farthest from the main gate and is home to the more sinister elements of Calzma, dangerous folk who've been banished or expelled from their homelands for every possible horrific reason. Should a bounty hunter come looking for someone, they're also less likely to delve this far into the nearly fully enclosed city.

The southern district makes up roughly 80% of the entire city and is sparely populated. Most folk who live here are outcasts, although most are simply petty theives who simply took too much, too often and got caught. With so few options to live well outside the Allegran capitals, folk often inhabit ruins or abandoned buildings.
