The Song of Two Becoming One
It is said that long, long ago, in a time before time began, two great star beings wandered the sky, each on their own separate journey, alone and searching for a song that they could not name, but somehow knowing it was out there somewhere just beyond the horizon. They wandered for ages, looking for that elusive melody that haunted their dreams. Until one day, a beautiful light appeared in the distance.
The star beings caught sight of each other for the very first time, knowing instinctively that their light was a beacon leading the way back to a home they hadn't even known existed. A feeling of recognition blossomed in their hearts. It was a love that drew them ever closer as each began to dance to the beat of the other's heart.
At first, the Bane'ile who lived on the world below rejoiced at the love of the two star beings that beamed down upon them. Their whole world blossomed as all manner of life sprang forth and flourished in the warmth of that great love, but when the star beings reached out to embrace each other, the people grew angry. They shook their fists and shouted up at the sky, "You should be ashamed of yourselves! You don't belong together like this! Can't you see what you're doing?! Your love will destroy us all!"
The star beings couldn't understand how their beautiful love could be a danger to anyone. How could love ever be wrong? Confused and surrounded with hostility, the two star beings were pulled apart. With tears in their eyes, they watched helplessly as their beautiful heart song faded into silence and they drifted farther and farther into the darkness. They both knew that they were losing something more precious than all the riches in the galaxy, but they couldn't see how to keep the flower of their love alive.
The two star beings wandered alone in the darkness once more, but there was no song in their hearts. They met other stars as they traveled along their separate paths, but no matter how hard they tried, they just couldn't seem to find their way back home again. The joy they once felt had all disappeared in that awful moment when the music died. Nothing made sense anymore. It all seemed so pointless somehow, but still, they believed that there must be something more to life than darkness and despair, so they each set out on a holy quest to learn all of the songs of love that had ever been sung.
So the two lonely star beings searched far and wide, each in their own way. They learned all the melodies and memorized all the lyrics that they could find, but there was still an empty space deep inside their hearts that none of these songs could quite fill. Then one day when they were just about ready to give up hope, a miracle happened. All the stars in the heavens who had been watching their sad journey took pity on them and aligned themselves just right so that the separate paths of the two star beings could cross once more.
Many generations of Bane'ile had lived and died on the little world below since the last time anyone witnessed this miracle in the sky, and the people had forgotten all about the dangers of the star beings' love, so all the great Singers of Songs came down to warn them. They sang songs of what once was and of how the two star beings, who were older and wiser now, understood the true value of the special song of love that lived only when their two hearts beat as one, and so they were determined that they would never be parted again. The Singers also sang songs of great magicks and of other worlds that lived in the light of the other star beings up in the sky, and the Bane'ile learned all of these songs and more. They even learned to fashion wings so they could fly up among the stars to see these wonders for themselves.
More generations came and went as the two star beings moved ever closer in the sky, and all the while, the great Singers of Songs walked among the people singing of two becoming one and of how the whole world would one day be engulfed in the eternal flame of the star beings' love. The Singers sang songs that foretold a time of great upheaval when they would retreat to their mystical realms and the Bane'ile would all be scattered among the stars. Then all of the songs that the people had learned would fade from memory, leaving silence to reign supreme as the other worlds trembled in this time out of time when the music died once more.
"But do not despair!" They sang. For there will be one born who will not forget: Shining Star Keeper of Singers. A great flyer, she will be a hero courageous enough to travel through all dimensions. She will be touched by the eternal flame of love and so forever hold the key that will restore the lost songs of the Bane'ile and set all the stars singing once more.
And when the fateful day arrived, there were a few brave souls who stayed behind to witness the miracle of love at that final joining in the sky, but most had flown away long ago to wander among the stars far from home and safe from the searing flames of true love's kiss that would shine brightly through the darkness as the two great star beings' hearts beat as one until the end of time and beyond.
