Horned Nose Thrummerz

Horned nose thrummerz are small winged mamals native to Jaleeria. They are called thrummerz because of the thrumming noise of their wings, which beat at about 40-50 times per second, allowing them to hover in place as well as fly very quickly. In addition to their speed, thrummerz have developed two other defense mechanisms to discourage the many predators lurking in the forrests of Jaleeria. When threatened, they emit a loud roar that startles and confuses most predators giving the thrummerz time to escape. If that fails, and a thrummer finds itself in the clutches of a hungry predator, it can use the sharp horn protruding from its nose to deliver a venom that, while not lethal, will cause swelling and burning boils painful enough to stop even a Snatcher.   In the aftermath of the hominid wars that brought the entire planet of Jaleeria to the brink of ecological collapse, it was the horned nose thrummerz who helped to keep the zsa-zsa tree population from dwindling to the point of no return during the time that it took for the whistler trees to begin to recover from near extinction. By helping to pollinate the zsa-zsa trees, the thrummerz benefitted both the Snatchers who rely heavily on the materials from these trees as well as the Jaleerians for whom the woo-hoo fruit produced by zsa-zsa trees is an important part of the sacred meal cosumed on their high holy days.
