Drought Mouth Condition in Kangxi | World Anvil

Drought Mouth

An upper respiratory infection that came about after the creation of The Wound. Drought Mouth is a bacterial infection characterized by its unique symptoms and high infectivity.

Transmission & Vectors

Drought Mouth is spread via infected particulate matter or droplets made by coughing, sneezing, or talking. It has difficulty spreading without direct inhalation, and does not survive well on inorganic surfaces.

Causes

A bacteria altered by the magical disruption in The Wound. It grows in collections of particulate matter, specifically where the dust, soil, and sand that made up the biomes of The Wound prior to its destruction now mix.

Symptoms

Dry mouth, shortness of breath, fatigue, dehydration, coughing, and sneezing. How Drought Mouth spreads so easily is that when an infected person or animal coughs or sneezes, they expel dust that has collected within their lungs.

Treatment

A combination of herbal remedies to hydrate the body and kill the bacteria in the lungs. One part is a white tea blended with ground tulsi, while the other is a burnt concoction of anise, cinnamon, clove, and fennel. The patient must inhale the smoke of the burning herbs twice a day for four days and drink the tea three times a day with plenty of water.

Prognosis

Without any similar or prior complications, Drought Mouth is far more inconvenient than deadly. Infants and the elderly are most at risk to develop comorbidities if not treated in a timely manner.

Sequela

A lingering cough that can last up to three full months after initial infection and treatment. The cough is not infectious.

Prevention

Those exposed must wear special particulate-filtering masks in order to keep it from spreading. Travel to The Wound without said masks is also highly discouraged. Any that have come from The Wound must quarantine for two days.
