93rd Formation of Skillian Military

The 93rd Formation was a formation in the army of Skillia that consisted of the last volunteers before the peace treaty was signed between Castronia and Skillia. The threat of war was high King Aladar requested anyone who was on the streets to consider joining up. At the time there were about 90 formations in the military, all consisting of one hundred men.

At first there were no answers, but three days after the proclamation, the men and boys on the streets volunteered for the military en masse.

Any man who came from the streets was sent to the '93rd'. There was no attempt to keep the fighting and gambling down. Several upper-class second sons who joined the military requested a transfer to the 93rd for the simple fact that they had heard there was no discipline.

The 93rd, despite its absolute lack of discipline, was surprisingly well organized an clean, for many of the street lads knew well the benefits of keeping clean, even more than the upper-class and middle-class regiments. When someone finally decided to stop sending people to the 93rd formation, there was approximately 2500 men in it.

Impromptu officers had been assigned when a military general was sent in to organize it. It was a failure from the start. The lads, wild and unruly outright disobeyed and even talked back to the new men, refusing to obey them. They preferred the captains they had chosen, so in the end, the general, resigned to the fact that the majority of the men in the 93rd knew how to survive with or without a leader, officially declared the ones already chosen as the captains, lieutenants and sergeants. As long as the 93rd existed, it was the men who chose their next officer, something that was earned through gaining the respect of the men, different than the usual methods of gaining notice in the army.
