Kiaglatch

Locked away from much of the world by mountains, Kiaglatch is a harsh, brutal land. This northern region is cold, but green with as many grasslands as there are forests. Many have heard of the region, in some capacity, but very few have ever actually seen it.

Geography

Kiaglatch is surrounded by the Allfire Peaks on all sides, except the most northern which is bordered by rocks, ice, and sea. The terrain is rugged, with many places where rolling hills suddenly become massive cliffs or descend into rocky gullies.   Open plains are the norm in the northern parts of the region, with grass as far as the eyes will allow one to see. These expanses of rolling hills are bordered by the ice bidden sea and are cut apart by several rivers. These rivers flood annually and regularly, filling the grasslands with water twice a year.   A few of the rivers descend deeper into the region, becoming murky, sunken swamps. These places are dank and maze-like, with several pockets of gas that are known to suddenly erupt into a fire. These swamps are usually close to the forests of the south, which are equally maze-like, but more rugged and inclined.

Fauna & Flora

Many of the animals are similar to those in Brianey, big and wooly. Foxes and bears are common, but the main predators the Cait Sìth , large wild cats that stalk the forests and swamps, and the Cù Sìth, bull-sized canine-esque creatures that ravage the open prairies. Equally common to the deer, aurochs, and boar that roam the region are the Giants known as fir bolg and their cousins the fomorians. While they are both related, the fomorians evolved from a separate line and actually hunt the fir bolg in the region.   Much of the flora seems similar to those of other regions, but close inspection will reveal that some of the plants are unique to the region. The dominant trees are spruce and fir, with birch and oak being common as well. The swamps are where most of the unique trees dwell, with the Milesian willow being most common, known for its twisting, spiral trunk and almost black bark.

Natural Resources

The northern prairies are home to the vast majority of the region’s farmland, with grains, potatoes, and asp beans being the most worked crops. All along the rivers of the prairies, there are fields and fields of crops growing, while in the open hills herders watch over cattle, sheep, horses, and even pigs.   In the southern forest, lumber is the common resource, with mining also being common closer to the mountains. The spruce and oak trees are the most common exports, being the most common trees. In the mines, iron runs for miles and miles beneath the surface. In these mines, gemstones such as garnet, quartz, and opals are also found, allowing the workers to profit from not only the iron trade but also the beautiful minerals they happen to find.
