Jandale (Yan-dale)
Well located to be the travel hub of Grundara, Jandale is exactly that. The large tower in the middle of the city supports not only the government buildings atop of it, but a large number of locations for airships to dock. Despite sitting between a number of commonwealth cities, Jandale has resisted joining the commonwealth for hundreds of years - governed instead by an individual (most recently "The Madam"). Being on major water and aerial shipping routes, Jandale is almost a guarnateed stop for supplies and most activity as it crosses the continent. This also means Jandale is a welcome home to both upstanding, and some of the shadier, entrepeneurs who would profit from such endeavours.
Demographics
Being among the oldest cities on Grundara, and also the trading hub, Jandale is about as diverse as Lornith itself (which is to say very diverse). The under, middle, and upper city all see an equal degree of diversity. The only other noteworthy mention are the three "families" that make up much of the larger business endeavors - The Pillars, The Weavers, and Umberlee's Missive. Even these families are racially diverse though and are, with a few exceptions, "family" in almost name only.
Government
Jandale has been ruled by a single individual for millennia. Repeatedly rejecting offers to join the commonwealth, it has successfully self-governed with very little in the way of major issues. The government buildings cover the smaller upper city, with the Madam overseeing it all. Commonwealth military and guards are permitted to enter the city without issue, a sign of good relations with Jandale's neighbours.
Infrastructure
Approaching Jandale from a distance you would immediately notice the noteworthy architectural aspects of the city. A massive central pillar rises out from the middle of the city, homes and businesses clinging to its side, with 4 smaller pillars surrounding it. These smaller pillars are really the technological marvel, each being an elevator to the upper or lower city from the middle. Despite the western elevator being broken for some time, the other 3 have functioned for thousands of years. The elevators function utilizing forgotten runic magics and so once broken, they cannot be repaired. 3 levels of large spherical discs sit atop the 5 pillars, supporting the government structure and airship docks. The pillars descend deep into the ground, where “Lower Jandale” can be found.
