Saldon Blackwing
Born the son of a naval officer in Malmor, Saldon was headstrong from his youth and though valiant he had no desire to follow his father's path to a life at sea. He spent some time as a mercenary soldier but eventually left his company to explore and seek his own name and destiny.
His path took him into the dark and mountainous uplands to the east of Malmor where he found himself the protector of the small and remote hamlets there who were in peril from ferocious raiders from the higher peaks and passes. He had to contend not only with their onslaughts but also with the twisted and debased magic that was employed by their rulers.
He managed to drive back the enemy after a long campaign, aided by a small group of valiant companions, and learned much of the ways of the enemy in order to oppose them. From the tales of Saldon Blackwing come many accounts of ghouls, wraiths and worse creatures of the endless night.
It is said that he lived to a good old age, more scholar than soldier by the end, and remained in the uplands as counsellor to the chiefs of the settlements there.
