It contains a number of tales on a variety of subjects including multiple minor variants of similar tales with reflections on how the variations are shaped by the changing times and cultures of the tellers.
Introduction
A short section about the reason for the work being compiled, the importance of preserving older tales in their older and purer forms, and the inspiration for the work that being the conversation of two authors who recalled slightly different versions of very similar stories. The theory that the variations arose because of their difference in birthplace and social class, and a desire to explore the true root versions of the stories so that by discerning what changes have been made, the changes in society that prompted those changes can be deduced.
