Tlazohtlaloni

Tlazohtlaloni Namoor Nahide

From D&D Beyond   Born to Naþrád and Lyyrni (both of whom were born in the wake of The Polycorism), Tlazohtlaloni Namoor Nahide began their life in a house of strict members of the Church of the Eye. Raised in truth and knowledge, T-Zoh tried to leave the bounds of learning several times, but found everything else unsatisfying. She was a constant problem child of sorts, always asking the "wrong" questions of the church. What follows is a collection of excerpts from a journal found belonging to the accused. Nineteenth April, 1482: As a child, I was good friends with Anaízje, a compassionate and well-beloved half-elf member of the Church of the Eye. Anaízje, being the slightly older of us two, tried to help guide me towards a slightly easier, kinder path. I was notably happier around her for our time together, but soon after I turned fifteen, Anaízje disappeared. I asked my father, and he turned somehow more dour than his usual self. Told me never to ask about that. I, of course, asked my mother, who went from laughing at her usual repertoire of jokes to being very, very quiet. I knew they were hiding something from me. I KNOW that they are. I still haven't found Anaízje, but after she disappeared, I noticed that my father's necklace had a new bead on it; one which was jade green with a single pale-yellow strand running throughout. Her parents made a big show of leaving that day. Something about a coalition, maybe? Or a syndicate?   Twenty-seventh August, 1482: Finally, my birthday rolls around! Seventeen, and not a moment too soon. With each year, my knowledge grows, as does my curiosity — and, regrettably, my social circle.   Third September, 1482: A new set of books came in today. I am troublingly uncertain about their subject matter, as they were quickly hidden from view. An odd practice for a church of truth, but I suppose they had to be verified, as with all of our reading material. Though our laws prohibit it, father often speaks of the books he is sent to verify. I wonder if he will speak of them this time.   Twenty-seventh September, 1482: Father never spoke of the books. It has been weeks, and I am growing impatient with curiosity. I simply must see them somehow. Such a small cargo is typically verified within three days. I must have missed their shelving date. I will check in the morning.   Twenty-eighth September, 1482: I asked Eïsserha about the shelving nary an hour ago. She told me that there had been no shelvings around the tenth, nor any new arrivals on the third. I know I saw them come in. Where did they go?   Thirteenth October, 1482: I found a new book today. Not in a typical spot, but hidden within a tree's hollow, deep within the woods west of home. As if it had been left there to rot and be reclaimed by the breathing bark of this patient forest. Its tongue is old, but related to our own. It may even be the same, but written by some eccentric.   Fifteenth October, 1482: This book is quite the riddle. It uses the old script, with characters for sounds we no longer use except in names such as mine, but is written in an otherwise modern fashion. Well, modern for a century ago, anyway. Perhaps my parents would have better luck.   Sixth November, 1482: I finally copied a page from the book and asked xeðor what it meant. I am uncertain as to its worth. The page is now gone, as he panicked and knocked a candle onto it, but he said it was of no concern. If that is the case, then I wonder why he never moved until it was nought but ash, and why he was so relieved after.   Eighth June, 1483: I've finally done it! I have a completed translation of the book. It is called "The Second Eye," and it seems to be a fiction novel told as a series of events as they happen. It's as if the events were being written by people as they happened, and the variety of writing styles, stains, and diction choices supports that. How clever! Though this translation was perhaps not fruitful, it has yielded great enjoyment. The story of a group rebelling against church censorship in the late 1330s, and so well-told! I think I will tell some of the other students here tomorrow.
