Whiptails *Crepuit Verbera*

Threat Level: High

Description

Whiptails are a sauropod-like dinosaur that is a part of the Bellataur group of dinosaurs due to possessing an extremely specialized body part. Whiptails are described by having a greenish coloration that can have hints of blue, turquiose and grey. Whiptails are believed to be relatives to saurpods but have smaller necks in order to mitigate their weakspot. Adult Whiptails are on average, 8-15ft tall while juveniles are about 4ft tall.   Whiptails have an overly exaggerated tail which has an average length of 25ft. Some lager specimens have tails as long as 40ft! Some have observed that Whiptails actually "coil" thier tails as to keep it out of the way. The ends of their tails have a specialized bone that is extremely dense which is then covered with thick scales that are sharp. Their tails are also quite dexterious which is similar to a spidermonkey This combination created a deadly weapon that could dent and even chip armor or rend flesh easily. This makes Whiptails a species that is sought after for thier tailtips are used to make powerful spears.

Behaviour

"The Tendril From the Shadows"

Whiptails are sometimes monikered "The Tendril From the Shadows" due to the way that it uses its tail. Its main hunting strategy is to hide or lurk somewhere that obscures it, this can be places like: cave mouths, treelines (though this spot is more for defending territory), tree canopies, and smaller bodies of water. The primary way that Whiptails use their tail is by first hiding in a spot that was afformentioned, then it will wait for either prey or intruders to enter its range and then it will bombarde the target with lashes until the target expires. Another way that a Whiptail attacks is that they will slowly bring their tail to the target, then they will wrap it around a part of the target then bring it to the Whiptail where it will then use its powerful legs to stomp out the target until its expiration. If a foe is stronger than the Whiptail's initial bombardment, it will then reposition as to make it harder for the enemy to target. If the enemy does target the Whiptail and begins to pursue, the Whiptail will start to reposition while bombarding the enemy with lashes OR it will make space between itself and the enemy by destroying the surrounding landscape like destroying a tree.

Communication

Whiptails communicate by "cracking" thier whips which can have differnt pitches and distortions but is very hard for the untrained ear to hear, and "mark" the environment by scratching trees to signify their territory. A clear sign that a Whiptail is near you is if you hear cracking noises in a rythmic pattern. This is a warning signal that the Whiptail makes to any intruders. A recent Giant Slayer addage was made for travelers that are on the road: "If theres crackin', you better start packin!". If you hear cracking for a while suddenly stop, that means the Whiptail is finding a spot for it to defend its territory.

Interactions

Civilizations

Whiptails are the most dangerous to folks that travel, for their Bellataur nomadic lifestyle will more than likely come into contact with travellers. Fortunately, if folks heed their warnings, they will not attack. For the Giant Slayers, they are considered a hinderance, althought an uncommon one. Taming them are next to impossible, but there is a member of the Skalis (Group in the Giant Slayers that specializes in Bellataurs) named Lingweenus is attempting to tame a juvenile Whiptail.

Whiptails, like other Bellataurs, are a nomadic creature so they could more than likely show up anywhere. These are the areas that have had the most recorded sightings. They tend to prefer swampy or forested areas according to these sightings.
