Raptor Hawk

Threat Level: High

Description

The Raptor Hawk is a highly intelligent pack hunter, which wanders the open plains and savanna’s of Jotunheim. While they may only stand 1.6 ft tall, they are still highly capable of taking down much larger game, and have an astonishing success rate when hunting.

This is in part thanks to their pack based hunting (often compromising of over a dozen specimens), but also due to their highly developed beak and sickle like claws, both of which are specifically designed to bleed their prey; the beak especially so, as it has evolved to be segmented, allowing them to move the front half independent of the base, which it uses to burrow and tear at prey.

With all of these factors in play, it is little wonder why the Raptor Hawk is able to go blow to blow with even the most dangerous of game. As their sheer numbers and terrifying weaponry makes them a nightmare come alive.

Behavior

Highly intelligent and highly dangerous, the Raptor Hawk has been nicknamed “Death Darters”, these quick predators are among the fastest Terror Birds on Jotunheim. And while they may not be as intelligent as the Red-Crested Harbinger or the Swinging Harbinger, they are well known for their devious intellect, which is most observable during a hunt.

When a prey item is spotted the pack, they will often simply observe from afar, gauging the difficulty of the hunt and learning habits and weaknesses. After some time, if it is decided the prey item serves little risk, they will simply attack outright, day or night. If it is determined to be a tougher target, however, then in the dead of the night they will begin to hoot and holler, letting themselves be seen as they dart around in the darkness. Additionally, they will attack in groups of 3 to 4, doing as much damage as possible before escaping, effectively breaking them down mentally and physically before the hunt.

Interestingly, while difficult, some people have actually tamed the Raptor Hawk, and use them as hunting companions, or even guard dogs.
