Threat Level: Varied
Description
Bounding Sabres are a therapod-like Bellataur that has the characteristic of having a prominent edge on the lengthside of its tail. Bounding Sabres are described as having a deep green coloration with orange accents on the tips of its spikes and tailblade. Bounding Sabres also have a crest that can help signify their age. Juvenile Bounding Sabres are around 6ft tall and adults are about 10ft tall.
Bounding Sabres have dorsal spines that can be used in some attacks that are acrobatic like the nicknamed "buzzsaw". It also has a tail blade that can be only be sharpened when its tail chips, like an arrowhead. Each of a Bounding Sabre's claws, teeth, tailblade, and spines have a orange coloration. This is because those are made up of an extremely heat conductive material that can acually be melted down into materials that can be used to travel the fires of The Scorch.
Behavoiur
The Soaring Blade
Bounding Sabres are nicknamed "The Soaring Blade" because of how they hunt and fight. They primarily hunt their prey by approaching to them until theyre around 30ft away, then they will "alert" their prey by roaring or by making their presence well known. It is theorized that this is to make the hunt more challenging which builds more energy that itll use later. Bounding Sabres are known to use acrobatic attacks like jumping wile slashing its tail. Spinning its blade like a spinning top OR spinning in the air like a wheel. The nature of Bounding Sabres are inclined to find and fight foes that are usually stronger than them. This means that citizens are not a target of Bounding Sabres, but other folks like adventurers could be potential targets for them, especially
Riled Up
Bounding Sabres can reach a state that is known as a "riled up" state. This is achieved by doing actions that can "rile" it up, primarily by performing jumping acts throughout a fight, chasing prey, or defeating a target. The orange tinted sections of a Bounding Sabre will begin to light up the more riled up it gets. Once a Bounding Sabre gets riled up, it will gain a "second wind" by gaining a boost of strength. But the most interesting aspect of this state is that the orange accented areas which include their spikes, claws, some teeth, and its tail, will begin to glow red hot adding an aspect of heat to all of thier attacks. Some parts can even begin to glow white hot if theyre especially riled up. Although this is a powerful boon, it also has its drawbacks. A Bounding Sabre must become heat resistant by beig riled up multiple times throughout its life. If a Bounding Sabre is not able to tolerate its heat, the parts will begin to melt the skin off the unfortunate creature. There are some adult specimens that have some severe scar tissue in select areas. This riled up state can also lessen their judgement, making them even more reckless and prone to counterattacks. Having controll ofthis state is a hard thing for Bounding Sabres to attain due to their scrappy nature. If adults are able to attain mastery over this state, they are able to "release" their energy by creating a powerful breath attack or even pumping that energy into a part to make that part perform even more powerful, some parts like the tail can be able to glow at a higher state of purple! Though this has been seen a handful of times. We still have no idea on how it is able to attain this type of energy the main theory is that there is some type of magic that it can harness to help bolster its attacks but if it is even magical, we do not know what kind it is.
Interactions
Civilizatons
Boundig Sabres do not interfere with civilizations as they mostly see them as a non-target. Though places like Giant Slayer encampments might have to deal with the occasional Bounding Sabre. As far as Bellataurs go, the Bounding Sabre is one of, if not the most documented Bellatuar in Jotunheim. Members in the Skalis are attempting to tame Bounding Sabres, but it is a hard thing to attain because of the daily skirmishing that is quite taxing. Only 2 members have tamed them, one of them is named Benji Shoal and the other is unnamed.
Lance Harbingers
Bounding Sabres have an interesting relationship with Lance Harbingers. This was documented by my father, Vepix Bouvergard. Around 180 years ago, there was a group of 10 juvenile Bounding Sabres fighting a pair of Lanced Harbingers. But there was something different about this fight, the Bounding Sabres circled the Lanced Harbinger pair in a circle, but only one of them would fight the pair, a foolsih endeavor I thought, but it made sense with what little knowledge weve accumulated at the time. But when the Bounding Sabre would fall, the Lanced Haringers couldve easily killed the Bounding Sabre, but I think that this act of foolishness impressed this pair to the point that they decided to give these juveniles mercy. Each juvenile would go in after the other one would fall but would actually give the Lanced Harbingers time to breathe and rocooperate. This whole entire fight lasted for around 1hour and when the last juvenile Bounding Sabre fell, the pair of Lanced Harbingers looked at eacother and one flew off while the other waited still and watched the pile of Sabres until all of them woke up from their injuries. This waiting period lasted for 15 hours.
I believed that the Lanced Harbingers seen the Bounding Sabres as some sort of a "worthy" opponent and decied to spare them for thier bravery. This I think was the moment that created this relatinoship between the two species, for now if you see any Lanced Harbinger in the same area of a Bounding Sabre, that Lanced Harbinger might take the Bounding Sabre under its wing and make it its "Squire", allowing it to skirmish with the Harbinger once a day and will "teach" the Squire by letting it learn from its own mistakes. This period can last for a week or even 5 years! Something else that is interesting is now Bounding Sabres have adopted a dislike towards Crestbills, even to the point that if a Lanced Harbinger that has a Squire is fighting a Crestbill, that Squire will assist the Lanced Harbinger fight the Crestbill. This almost ends with the death of the Squire.
