B'Dooga
Threat Level: None (99% of the time)
Description
-
B'Doogas are seen as a gargantuan serpent-like creature that has thick, white fur covering it. The fur can varry from each individual where the observed fur types were the following: Thick and wooly like a sheep's wool, Short and thin, long and shaggy, and even curly. But is assumed that there are more styles of fur.Its eyes are round in shape, and black in coloration, roughly similar to obsidian. The TRUE length of a B'Dooga is unknown, but there is a theory that says B'Doogas are actually magically sentient clouds where the observed part of the B'Dooga is merely an extension of its being.
-
There are few times B'Dooga will ever group up because of their solitary nature, but there are exceptions, these include: whenever one is in danger, an individual cries for help, whenever a pair of B'Dooga have a family which ranges to 3-5 members (including the parents), and possibly in retaliation (See Legends Header, Section 1).
Behaviour
The B'Dooga are widely known for their extremely friendly disposition, being one of the few creatures in Jotunheim that is friendy. Its friendliness towards things is indiscriminate for it recorded that a B'Dooga tried and befriended a Hydra, which led to the B'Dooga leaving with a couple of bite marks and the Hydra sleepy. But one of the most interesting things about the B'Dooga is its "inate ablility" to sense beings that are innocent and in doing so, the B'Dooga will sing a melody of blessing, which will give its target a shield of protection for about a week. The individuals affected by this bless seem to have a different glint in thier eyes that lasts permanently.
B'Doogas are a creature dubbed "solitarily social", meaning B'Doogas mostly venture by themselves but communicate with eachother miles apart with their melodies. Each melody is unique to each B'Dooga.
The B'Dooga's method of feeding is unknown but speculations rose around 85 years ago that the B'Dooga actually feeds off of the positive feelings it evokes onto others which was an adaptation to its positive attitude.
B'Dooga's do mate, the methods are unknown. Once the juvenile(s) are born, the parents will raise the child until they reach adulthood. Each family has a special melody in order to identify eachother. Mating B'Doogas will then become lifelong partners but due to their "solitarily social" lifestyle, they will separate after thier young mature, but both will still communicate with eachother and even visit one another every so often.
When a B'Dooga expires, it will simply hang in the air, making its body dangle. The corpse will then disappear after 3 weeks. The corpse never rots.
The population of B'Doogas are specualted to be around 731, making them a rare specimen. But around 15 years ago, a family of 4 B'Dooga were supposedly killed by poachers for their fur due to missing sections of fur on a juvenile B'Dooga.
Legends
There is a legend of a king from a faraway land who had to move away due to an ancient dragon taking their land, landing on Jotunheim and colonizing a relatively large area. This king was a mad one, who would eradicate the local wildlife and giants with no discrimination. This angered the B'Dooga who then retaliated against the kingdom. Known as "The Wailing Heavens" was a large group of B'Dooga that wailed and then roared in anger and sadness before attacking, then leveling this city and eviscerating almost everyone they deemed a threat, though some lived to tell the tale. This was the only time that really mentioned the B'Dooga were outright aggressive and went after a target.
"RattleDooga" is an urban legend that was brought up roughly 102 years ago, where a B'Dooga had an encounter with an extremely powerful surge of wild magic and transformed it into a beast of utter evil, making RattleDooga the anthesis of a normal B'Dooga.RattleDooga resembles a skeletal B'Dooga with bits of blackened fur scattered throughout its body. RattleDooga would go after the individuals blessed by B'Dooga and would proceed to torture and kill them. After being killed by RattleDooga, it would then hand the corpse one one of its many ribs. People say that if you hear cracking noises 2 days after being "blessed" by the B'Dooga, RattleDooga is after you. (Imagine RattleDooga looking like a creature similar to Trevor Henderson's "Long Horse")
Relations With Giants
The name "B'Dooga" comes from Firbolgs discovering one in a Fey-Wild to Material Plane bridge several centuries back, which means "Fluffy Buddy" in giant. Though Storm Giants have claimed that they have seen the B'Dooga many centuries before the Firbolg's discovery. Since the B'Dooga live in the clouds, they have the most interactions with Cloud Giants, who have a natural respect with them. But whenever a B'Dooga is near the Cloud Giants, they will ask to shear some of the fur off the B'Dooga, for their fur is an extremely fine and sought-after material, which is then made into luxuroius pillows and beds for Cloud Giants who will then flaunt them around.
Ice giants have a special relationship with the B'Dooga where they will ask a B'Dooga to sing either its rallying or enraging melody before a great fight whenever a B'Dooga is in the area. Ice Giants consider this a sign of good luck and that a great battle will happen.
In general, many giants respect the B'Dooga and even claim that if you see a B'Dooga, it is considered very lucky and your next hunt will be quite harvestful.
The Melodies of the B'Dooga
Many of the songs of the B'Dooga are known for having strangely magical properties. Bards that live in Jotunheim are known for using melodies of the B'Dooga as inspiration for their routines. A group of artificers also known as "The Orchestra" are trying to decipher the magical properties of the B'Dooga's melodies to create and sell magical instruments that can copy these melodies exactly. Though the instruments they do sell are only but a weaker copy of them and thus the magical effects are quite weaker.
Here is a list of widely known B'Dooga melodies. Though there are many more to be reported.
Melody of Health- The most common melody sang by a B'Dooga. This song is able to heal and cure injuries as told by most people that have encountered a B'Dooga.
Melody of Bless- A song that the B'Dooga will play to things that it deems "innocent". The song is described as notes that give the listener a feeling of being protected and comforted by something durring a time of peril.
Melody of Encouragement- A complex song that creates a sense of encouragement and rallying to the target.
Melody of Rage- A series of yells, and chants that invoke a sense of anger in a creature. This is mostly heard in certain rituals done by gladitorial giants before a fight.
Melody of Force- A simple, aggresive yell the B'Dooga produces which creates a strong burst of force. This is used by B'Doogas as a tool.
Melody of Sleep- A melody that has very calming patterns that can induce sleep in a creature. This melody can be faintly heard at midnight on a full moon. People reported to have pleasant dreams after hearing this melody before sleeping.
Melody of Fear- A melody that is made up of sharp shrieks that invokes a sense of fear in those who listen. This fear only lasts for 10minutes, enough time for the B'Dooga to leave.
Anam's Melody- This melody has been sang very few times that we have heard of. It is a song that is hard to describe which is because it is sang in an ancient dialect of Giant where even our most experienced scholars cannot even dicipher except for the word Anam. The effects of this melody is unknown.
