Pokemon Professor

The Pokemon Professor is a title passed down from a previous Professor to one of his/her assistants. Usually, this profession is kept within the family but there have been cases where it was passed down to a Professor's Assistant that was not related. This position is highly respected throughout the region as the go-to person with knowledge on all things Pokemon. It is also a well-known fact that the professors within other regions are in constant communication to further the research and knowledge of Pokemon species, evolution, and variants. The Professor is also the person who invited those who turn 12 to receive their own Pokemon and go on their own adventure.

Qualifications

The qualifications to become a Pokemon Professor is mostly experience based. As the position is handed down from person to person, each previous professor mentors their candidate and passes on their knowledge to them. It is expected that the Professor has traveled throughout the region in their earlier days and has a keen interest in furthering the knowledge on Pokemon. It is also expected that the Professor has some amount of technical knowledge in this modern day such as how to work with computers and the Pokedex.

Career Progression

Before a new Professor is recognized throughout the other regions, he/she must meet with the other leading pokemon professors throughout the world at the annual Pokemon Research Summit (PRS) to state his/her goal to bring new knowledge to the field of research.

Payment & Reimbursement

The Pokemon Professor's research and lab are funded by the Regional Governing Office (RGO) which works closely with the Elite 4 and Pokemon League as a whole.

Purpose

The Professor leads all research on all things Pokemon including but not limited to species and their regional variants, evolution, and their moves. The Professor will also often work with other specialists on researching the Legendary Pokemon or the Gods if it pertains to their other work. Ever since the professors have gained popularity, they have also taken the role of introducing children to Pokemon and setting them up on their adventures when they reach the age of 12.

Social Status

The Professor is often seen as a celebrity and has a constant stream of requests to be interviewed for television. As the leading authority in the region on all things Pokemon, The Professor does not report to anyone but rather publishes his research for use by the Pokemon League and Elite 4 as well as the general public.

There is only 1 professor in each region and it can be a highly sought after position by those that wish to be in the limelight.

History

The first Pokemon professors were not called by such a name. It has only been in the last 150 years that the title Pokemon Professor has been used and passed down. The earliest "professors" were simply educators and researchers who wanted to learn more about Pokemon. In the earliest days, all of the research was passed down from one researcher to another as everything was physical papers and theories. it wasn't until Professor Oak invented the Pokedex that the way people researched Pokemon changed. These days everything is digital but there are still cabinets full of old research passed down between professors.

The standard equipment for a Pokemon Professor in the modern-day includes a personal Pokedex, a partner Pokemon, their own pokemon healing unit, and a high-end desktop computer to do their research on.

Workplace

The workplace of The Professor is their personal lab. Filled with their assistants and their team of researchers, the lab is always full and busy. It is not unusual to see a multitude of pokemon within the lab out of their pokeballs and helping with the research.

Provided Services

When a child reaches the age of 12, an invitation to visit The Professor is sent with the expectation that they will come to receive a Pokemon partner and embark on an adventure. This is an opt-out service that is usually left to the parents to decide if it is a good choice for their child. Additionally, The Professor may be tasked with specific research from The Pokemon League, The Elite 4, or the RGO in times of need or emergency.

Dangers & Hazards

The inherent dangers of this profession are the same as any profession that directly works with a variety of Pokemon especially Wild Pokemon. It is necessary to bring a team of Pokemon whenever going on an expedition or going anywhere with Wild Pokemon.
