Mental characteristics

Personal history

Logan Howell is a half-elf conscripted at birth to a prevalent sailing/trade company. This traditional trade secured a merchant route contract and ensured the sailing company got free labor for one of their ships. His name was changed by his first captain to “Logan Howell,” Howell being the name of the ship he worked on. He was traded so young he doesn’t remember anything about his time before conscription. He worked on contracted vessels sailing many harsh seas and stopping at hardened port towns. Logan worked many positions growing up all the way up to First Mate. Logan worked on a total of three boats, the Howell (a Brig), the Dante (a Cog), and the Whydah (a Galleon). He worked on The Howell most of his nautical career (15 years), transporting goods between lands separated by the Hihantsky Ocean. He later was assigned as the boatswain on The Dante on the Keisen Sea delivering both goods and passengers to varied lands (8 years). When the rifts closed, he was assigned to a new crew and boat as a First Mate to the Whydah doing merchant work in varied seas (10 years).   Logan fulfilled his conscript and was released early for years of outstanding service. When released he was given documentation related to his initial conscription. All the information on said documentation was either redacted or faded from the sea air. The only thing legible was a single name “Levindrant.” With only the 10 gold in his pouch and equipment gathered in his pack he has washed up on a small boat at Raiders Point looking for work and information to carry him closer to his true origins.

Gender Identity

He/Him

Sexuality

Straight Attracted to Females.

Education

Logan was taught everything and more in regards to sailing; however, any education he received was not formalized. Most of his education came from passengers, other sailors, and an esteemed captain/father figure who taught him much of what he knows about the world outside of sailing.

Employment

Logan was conscripted to a prominent yet small shipping company that had been bought and sold a dozen times during his time on sea. After the great war the best vessels from his employer were bought out by Baltare's Shipping & Freight with older ships being left to go independent like the Whydah.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Logan had achieved much in his time while sailing. He started on the bottom, as all conscripts do, but earned his way to the position of first mate on the whydah; although, he reflects heavily on his experiences on his first promotion to a boatswain for a brig called the Dante.

Failures & Embarrassments

He often started tavern brawls that he had little ability to backup. Many of his long time crew mates are mindful of this and have made sure to remind him of these lost brawls for a laugh often.

Mental Trauma

Logan is not the type to express any mental trauma he has, but he disguises any pain or anguish from a life at sea and groomed servitude under a bravado. Some could say his impulsive and indulgences that he heavily leans into are due to a new found freedom he never truly got to experience.

Intellectual Characteristics

Logan is at his smartest when he has to work quick or think under high stress or pressure, but fumbles to do the same with the most basic or mundane of instances. Most would say he is cunning, quick-witted, clever, even wise at times but rarely hears the word "smart."

Morality & Philosophy

He approaches the complexities of life simply and the simplicities of life with too much forethought. He is very independent and concerned mostly with how any circumstance may come to affect him, and he cares little for the things that don't. He lives a dichotomy of a brazen independence but secretly and subtly wants and needs the bonds/approval of others. He takes well to the common man but does not appreciate those with wealth or authority, as it was wealth and authority that were responsible for conscripting men to service on ships like him.

Taboos

Logan hates rodents and bugs and creepy crawlies of any nature, he is more likely to vocalize his disdain for them rather to act on them.

Social

Contacts & Relations

  • Captain Olarian:

Family Ties

It is a common and old practice to obtain a shipping contract by offering one of your children into conscripted service. That said, Logan knows nothing of his family nor why they may have conscripted him. He suspects the name "Levindrant" to be a starting clue to answer this question.

Mannerisms

He moves quickly and decisively; however, he stands with poor posture and slumps down whenever seated. It is often hard to tell if he is drunk or has yet to be rid of his sea legs.

Wealth & Financial state

Uncaring of the wealth, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference between Logan with money and Logan without as he treats life the same. His irresponsibility and lack of value towards wealth means he's more often poor than rich.

Logan Howell is a half-elf conscripted at birth to a prevalent sailing/trade company. After years of sailing through many seas and ports, Logan has freed himself from his contracted life service to begin a life of adventure.
