Daistia

1. Thoughts 7/2/2020

I found a map labeled "Daistia." I think I'm going to use this as the starting point for Jiren. The Out of Africa model. There's a great mountain range blocking the area from "The Other Land." The new Apex predator that I'm going to make lives in this mountain range, preventing the people of Daistia from exploring. Eventually, they find a way to defeat this predator and spread through the rest of Jiren.

2. The Cape

This template is for a geographic location. One of the options is Location Type. I thought maybe it's a cape, so I looked up "cape." Wikipedia: "which makes them prone to natural forms of erosion." That doesn't sound right, so I kept looking. Then I realized, if it erodes over time, this could become a lost region. A place of myth and speculation, like Atlantis. So, this is why I decided Daistia is a cape.

3. Map of Daistia Version I

Daistia Map 01
An old map that I found.
As you can see, the different regions belong to different races. It has been too long since I created this map to know how and why I made these distinctions. However, I do have a few notes on the area.

Ancient Notes as follows:

Daistia

Ourture

Race: Elves
Capitol:
Main trade: Mining
Other: Border Protector to the Other Lands.

Ourture Alliance

Race: Elves
Capitol:
Main trade: various
Other: Territories allianced with Ourture. They swear fealty to the current [High Leader] of Ourture. Each territory has a Lord, which often council at the capitol. They can make decisions without the HL of Ourture.

Biddune

Race: Humans
Capitol: Terimna
Main Trade: wool, meat, agriculture
Other: Highly trained military.

Siutu

Capitol:
Race: Leprechauns
Main Trade: gold (and rare gems?)
Other: The common belief is that they are not ready for true warfare. Humans use them as slaves.

Tchia

Capitol:
Race: Various
Main Trade: None
Other: Tchia is a forest in which no one dares to enter. Therefore, no one knows what's in there, and they believe it to be inhabited solely by feral creatures. No one knows about the single intelligent race: the peacock humans (can be a human w/wings or a bird).

Saejirn

Capitol:
Race: Dragons
Main Trade:
Other:

Ecaris

Capitol:
Race: Phoenixes
Main Trade:
Other

4. Features

There are two major barrier types in and around Daistia. The first, I already mentioned, is the mountain range, and the second is the various rivers and surrounding Sea of Artaim. Both are home to the Apex predator I plan to create. The Greater Apex lives in the Mountains and the Lesser Apex lives in the Rivers. This means travel within the region is hindered but not impossible, whereas travel outside the region is considered suicide.

5. Edits

I don't like the way Daistia is now. I'd like to change the borders and where each race lives. I'd also like to change the dynamics between the races. Finally, I want to establish creation stories for each race, as well as a rough technology/industry/evolution/erosion/etc timeline. The timeline will help me figure out when and how the people of Daistia finally leave and populate the rest of Jiren.

Geography

There are a number of distinct geographic regions within the cape of Daistia. One of them is a fault line creating a set of islands and the bordering mountains.

History

  • Each race is created with one male and one female.
  • The races begin to populate where they were created.
  • Culture develops.
  • The races begin to meet one another, and prejudices arise.
  • Wars and trade break out.
  • Technology develops.
  • Treaties and alliances are made.
  • The people thrive and wish to explore outside their home.
  • The Great Expansion.
