Lockhinge Notes - The Ridge

As mainstreet travels up through the Stone Quarter, the area where it splits and stops being a single, busy thoroughfare for everyday and visiting traffic is considered the beginning of the ridge. This is an unofficial district that combines several functions, and is more known for the underlying geography than for its personality or function. This transition zone is where the easily-identifiable features of the Stone Quarter break up into the larger, historic, more city-owned civic buildings and features (such as the Platinum Ballroom and the grandest libraries), some industrial areas (mostly built into the mountain itself), the path leading to the Keep, and the wide avenue leading back down toward Portside.   As most Lockhinge residents live west of the ridge, and Portside is rather self-contained, there is not much common traffic across the ridge. Locals stop at the top of the Stone Quarter if they have no specific business beyond it, so there are very few establishments attempting to demand the attention or business of passersby. It is a relatively quiet area, and very well-policed, considering the value of the buildings there and its proximity to the Thriyan estate.
