Lockhinge Notes - Stone Quarter

With so little space available, especially on dry ground, of course the percentage of Lockhinge City that was built on the solid rock of the foothills would be the most espensive and elaborate part of the city. Not only are the buildings not in danger of sinking as everything else is in the city, but the dry foundation they are built upon allow for things like basements.
  • pale stone archictecture, beautiful but not necessarily colorful, aside from banners and gilding.
  • not only is space available at a premium in the city, but the buildings in the Stone Quarter have even less space to work with being that they are built on a rather steep slope. This doesn't stop many mansions being being larger than they need to be, of course.
  • while they may not have huge lawns and gardens like other mansions and estates in the kingdom, Stone Quarter homes turn whatever land they do control into enviable expressions of culture and means, and the homes themselves are all at least two stories tall, with some being three or even a tower-like four.
  • because of their solid stone construction, the shape and size of stone quarter mansions cannot be changed, but many are still creative in their design to begin with. A lot is also done with the facade of the buidings, the special installed features, and the decorations.
  • The streets are generally considered safer, but it is more due to how much more intense private security can be here, and the nobles of lockhinge are generally more dangerous and capable of defending themselves than may are elsewhere in the kingdom. The reputation of all of their schools being "thief schools" are not necessarily false, and nobles are no exception. There is a good chance that a noble raised in Lockhinge at least understands how to pick a lock, cheat at cards, and stab someone in a way that they wont get back up from.
  • instead of big lawns, rooftop and terraced gardens, extensive balconies, inner courtyards, etc.
  • especially here, gold everywhere, especially on the people.
  • note as bad at the rest of the city, but you will still find places sharing a building.
