main street runs the length of Lockhinge from the river, through the city almost along the waterfront, up the main drag into the stone quarter, to the civic center on the ridge.
main street only avenue wide enough to support much carriage or cargo traffic. elsewhere, only small deer-drawn or humanoid-powered carriages used by wealthy.
main tourism drag. instead of cutting through heart of city, skirts along the southern edge, most with a view of the water beyond.
riddled with pickpockets (who are mostly targeting tourists) but otherwise relatively safe because easily most visible part of the city. there is always someone watching.
when they refer to the market, they don't mean the stretch of shops and stands that is there all week long. market is a weekly(?) event where brick-and-mortal stores set up small stands, the carts selling food and wares around the city all gather in one place, and folks from all over Greymantle bring their wares to trade.
vendors set up in everything from elaborate, sturdy stands, to selling things out of a push-cart or off of a simple blanket set up between other sellers. The market officialls starts as mainstreet being its norther border, covering everything south, up to and including the water, as there is an entire fleet of market boats and rafts.
Shopping can be done along main street, the smaller waterfront streets and boardwalks where vendors are both set up on the walkway and docked in the water, from any of the docks that extend out from the boardwalk, or even from a personal raft moving among the floating section of the market.
while the official market only includes temporary stands along mainstreet and southward, brick-and-morter stores and restaurants frequently open their doors and have some of their wares displayed outside to tempt tourists and market-goers, especially during special events. Even if your favorite shop isn't represented in the market stalls, it's still a good time to swing by and see if they have any special promotions happening for that day.
