Centaurs

Greymantle

Centaurs of Greymantle marsh are of generally slighter stature than the rest of their kin, and the scope of their migration is a little less vast. They do roam constantly across the entire breadth of marshlands, but generally stay within its confines instead of venturing out across the meadowlands to the north as well. Their clans are smaller and more prone to fragmentation, which both allows them to adapt more quickly to changing circumstances as a people and leaves individuals more vulnerable when their family group splinter down to nothing. This fragmentation especially leaves them vulnerable to threats such as being assimilated into Besottany's Herd.   The bloodlines that roam the southern swamps are either dun or grey in coloration, with hair and skin similarly being found in shades of cream, grey, black, and sun-faded. They have a slightly shaggy appearance, but are lacking any longer hair on their lower legs that could get caked in mud. They tend to leave their thick, bristly manes uncut as they don't grow to the same flowing lengths as some of their other cousins, but do braid pieces back if too much of their hair gets in their eyes. The hair of their tails is either trimmed, braided or tied up, or naturally grows short enough to not drag in the water.   While all centaurs tend to be secretive, the swampland clans are especially elusive, traveling with surprising quickness through the marsh and leaving little trace of their passing. They are also known for being reluctant to use words to communicate, preferring far more subtle (and, to them, genuine) modes of nonverbal communication. This has led to the belief that their intelligence or understanding is lacking, and that they will attack suddenly without apparent warning, when in actuality the other party has missed important signs of the centaurs showing that they are being offended or threatened.
