Yeenoghu Character in Jethiea | World Anvil

Yeenoghu

"The Prince of Gnolls" * "Gnoll Lord" * "Beast of Butchery"

Yeenoghu is one of the demonic lords of the Abyss that once roamed the Prime Material Plane. He is a large, bestial, feral, angry demon. He is ever-hungering, ever wandering to conquer and devour, leaving destruction, fetid meat, and waves of yipping, angry hyenas to devour what was left behind in his wake.
Consider a new demon he came through into this material plane with others that escaped from their own dying universe as a slave-Tanar’ri attached to a Obyrith master. During the battle that ensued he was separated from his master and found his way to the young planet. He hungered and as an APEX predator to a newly formed world that had not experienced much violence fed well. Finally, being cast out and sent to the Aybss.
He found his strength was a benefit there and sought his rise to power and  in time ultimately conquer the material plane of Jethiea in totality.

Artifacts

THE BUTCHER
Yeenoghu can summon the three-headed magical flail known as "The Butcher". It is constructed from the thighbone and torn flesh of an ancient god he slew, with three chains ending in rusty barbed heads. Those hit with more than one head of the flail can suffer from mental confusion and paralysis and it bleeds ichor when used in battle. Only when the Beast of Butchery holds his flail will the powers of the three heads manifest. He can also will the chain to fly independently into battle while he himself tears his enemies to shreds.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

His symbol is his triple headed flail.

Tenets of Faith

Yeenoghu demands living sacrifices in remote wilderness regions on altars of crude stone.
His faithful wear dark brown robes accented by mangy yellow furs. They are not allowed to clean these robes, and in time they grow horrific with clotted blood and foul odors.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

One of Yeenoghu’s great desires is to see to the prosperity of his people, the gnolls. He envisions a Material Plane dominated by his children, where elves and humans, dwarves and halflings are slaves at best and food at worst. Yet he realizes that all the gnolls in the Material Plane could not achieve such a goal—as a result, he actively supports cultists of other races who turn to him for support.

Physical Description

Apparel & Accessories

His fur is matted, and his armor amassed from fallen enemies.

Social

Reign

Savage and ruthless, Yeenoghu is the patron of all gnolls and commands the servitude of ghouls through the subjugation of the demonic King of the Ghouls. Yeenoghu is shown as being skeletally thin accounts for the idea that he, and by extension the gnolls, are always hungry and ready to eat, even if their prey is still alive.

Contacts & Relations

Only Yeenoghu’s eternal war with Baphomet nears the level of his hatred for Malcanthet. The source of the conflict between the Prince of Gnolls and the Prince of Beasts is unclear, likely forgotten even by the two demon lords themselves, yet they show no signs of ceasing their eternal hostilities.
